About INgene : First ever Indian Youth trend Insights blog:
This blog explores the detailed characteristics of Young-India and explains the finer & crucial differences they have with their global peers. The blog also establishes the theory of “adopted differentiation” (Copyright Kaustav SG,2007) and how the Indian & Inglodian youth are using this as a tool to differentiate themselves from the “aam aadmi” (mass population of India) to establish their new found identity.

The term youth refers to persons who are no longer children and not yet adults. Used colloquially, however the term generally refers to a broader, more ambiguous field of reference- from the physically adolescent to those in their late twenties.
Though superficially the youth all over the world exhibits similar [degree of] attitude, [traits of] interests & [deliverance of] opinion but a detailed observation reveals the finer differential characteristics which are crucial and often ignored while targeting this group as a valued consumer base. India is one of the youngest countries in the world with 60% of its population less then 24 years of age and is charted as the most prospective destination for the retail investment in the A. T. Kearney’s Global Retail Opportunity Report, 2007. With the first ever non-socialistic generation’s thriving aspiration & new found money power combined with steadily growing GDP, bubbling IT industry and increasing list of confident young entrepreneurs, the scenario appears very lucrative for the global and local retailers to target the “Youngisthan” (young-India). But, the secret remains in the understanding of the finer AIOs of this generation. The Indian youth segment roughly estimates close to 250million (between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five) and can be broadly divided (socio-psychologically) into three categories: the Bharatiyas, the Indians & the Inglodians (copyright Kaustav SG 2008). The Bharatiyas estimating 67% of the young population lives in the rural (R1, R2 to R4 SEC) areas with least influence of globalization, high traditional values. They are least economically privileged, most family oriented Bollywood influenced generation. The Indians constitute 31.5% (A, B,C, D & E SEC) and have moderate global influence. They are well aware of the global trends but rooted to the Indian family values, customs and ethos. The Inglodians are basically the creamy layers (A1,A SEC) and marginal (1.5% or roughly three million) in number though they are strongly growing (70% growth rate). Inglodians are affluent and consume most of the trendy & luxury items. They are internet savvy & the believers of global-village (a place where there is no difference between east & west, developing & developed countries etc.), highly influenced by the western music, food, fashion & culture yet Indian at heart.

INsightYoung'10- Trends in Tee shirts among the youth in India

This is the only RAW and REAL insight in socio-psychology of youth in India and their "attitudes" towards the tee...

1. Brand name has no significant impact while purchasing a tee...
2. Most pref. price segment is Rs.299 (boys) and Rs.599 (girls)...
3. The brands should focus on the "look and attitude" (graphics, text, color, material) of the tee rather than spending more money on advertising and promotion...
4. "Tee+denim" the essential staple in youth wardrobe

why I love MM - Watson D'costa (In'glo'dian, 22years)

MARILYN MANSON>>> Deckin out in black costumes, sinister make-up and Tees reading "666". Mom, I'm going to listen to Satan music. Can u pik me up at 11o' clock?>>> "Goddam">>> Mother- f#@*>>> Sex is dead>>> Spit, cut, rub>>> Grass n LSd>> U'd love it all for the staged evil.

An American by birth, Anti- Christ by choice. The band's radiation is reflective from the names, literally. The first names of female rockstars and the last names, of serial murderers. Manson's act is a calculated attempt to take the two things mothers always tell children it ain't polite to talk about- religion and sex- and be as rude about them as possible. Ripping up a bible is a frequent stage trick. On stage Marilyn Manson looks like a long pale worm. He can't sing or write song lyrics, but is nonetheless enjoying a run as one of the hottest rockstars. Manson is a symbol of American pop culture's continued race toward depravity. His latest album titled Anti- Christ Superstar and his lyrics celebrate things like suicide, destruction, and disease. The iconography of his shows- the self- laceration, the back braces, and bizarre crutches, etc-- is a celebration of pain and perversity.
Why do i and a section of the country likes MM?!?!? Not jus for whats above. Niceness is the one value no one dares transgress. Exceptionally for Manson though. What Manson is about on a deeper level is the culture's premiere value; Hype. Manson denies promoting any values whatsoever; he's just for people being themselves. Manson mind's his own business. His fans instinctively say the same thing, fallin back on a tolerance defense that inevitably turns common sense on its head. MM decides to make music at times when he couldn hav had more obstacles. He walked on stage many times after receiving death threats. MM cannot live without doing what he wanted to do. So at the same time, he's willin to die for it. MM is an idealistic artist who wants to spend his time putting ideas into the world, which ends up fuckin him over. He's one OPTIMISTIC life on the planet.
Deliver what you want and how u want it. MM always just ends up violent, so extreme that he's got 300 or more scars all over him on him due to destroying equipments. Me, u, n evryone gets one step closer to the grave evry single day. MM actuated to me the fact about the sweetness and inevitablity of it. Will power. MM digs up bones, does drugs, and sleeps at the basement of a rat infested appartment. Manson has deep respect fro ppl who're bein a part of his work. Thats a very vital stuff that not most of the population can assert possessing.
Man's greatest fear is chaos. The first few people on earth needed no books, movies, games or music to inspire cold blooded murder. The day that Cain bashed his brother Abel's brain in, the only motivation he needed was his own human disposition to violence. We have all the examples around. Isn't killing just killing, regardless if its in Vietnam, Iran, Kargil, or nextdoor? Why do we justify one, just because it seems to be for the right reasons? Should there ever be a right reason? We applaud the creation of a bomb whose soul purpose is to destroy all of mankind and we grow up watching people's brains splaterred all over the floor. Unnoticedly, MM started his band as a criticism of these very issues of despair and hypocrisy. " I wasn afraid of dying as much as I was really afraid of getting my hair cut", says MM of his life at Ohio. Who's bad??
Deep down, most adults hate people who go against the grain. People tend to associate anyone who behaves differently with illegal and immoral activity. "I realized the most important thing for me to do is to JUsT BE ME", says Manson. All his deeds, are his. But to do wut u wanna c happening, requires havin the rightest mind with the key ingredients; style, view, n balls. Manson showed me how.
Wanna live your days your way, consider considering MARILYN MANSON. He's one real time inspiration for me. Wish he gets to Evan to straighten things better.

Cheers,
Watson.

"bike bites @ 2009 >>2010" by Watson D'costa

All barriers are meant to be broken, and this is most apt in the world of biking. India is being proven to be one of the most potential market for motorbikes. Earlier, the sole purpose of a motorbike was to commute. BUT NO MORE. Biking has trickled up to gr8 heights. Times of goin with the wind have literally transformed to goin against it. So much that the break even point of a bike n car price has been witnessed this year( r15 & the nano, wid the ninja movin further ahead). The speedo needle has found its land more than the fuel ind. needle in India. Bliss. Biking enthusiasm has accelerated to distances in the country wher all the big players hav found their fresh market, from kawasaki to the Harley.
Though we pay down double price for an import ride, the fascination for the techs doesn really make most misfire n switch to the normal Indian Stock bikes. Indian had not been cynical with their rides, but now are. The machine i stand next to, is my id. So is anyone else's. Starting from the body, the aerodynamic physique, the color, the engine, the valves, the filters, the exhausts, the wheels n every minute thing that the customers had cared a zilch about, have begun to being upgraded. A bike has become a creation, rather than just production.
I find myself very much closer into the roar of the racing spirit when i had ridden the new KAWASAKI NINJA 250R. Its a class of itself and makes u feel a lil off track just like how u feel drivin an astra compared to other four wheel drives. Right way to end 2009. At idle, she's just a no one. But one red-line twist took me one step ahead of my whole riding experience. Its got a cetain something to it. Looks. Its just about perfect. The geometry of lines and the composition of a theme all over the bike, makes it look like one real NINJA indeed. Analog metres, a lil unpreferable for me. Its got pretty good and desirable upgrades like the parallel twin, 32.5 bhp(highest on indian roads), f-i system, DOHC 4-valve cylinder, 6-speed gear box(following GSR and R15), tubeless wheels, topping a 160 kph. But the greenery's hit by the duty structure of the country, which brings its ex-showroom price close to 3 lakhs. But u would definitely feel the worth of every single buck you pay down for the ride coz the rush of the throttle is not somethin you can tax on.
In spite of kick-ass riding experiences, the market has been constricted to a single genre or rides. In 2010, i'd be excited to see off traffic dirt busters adn ATV'S on Indian roads, which would grace up Indian biking vibe to a much greater level. No for electric bikes definitely. I am also really expecting the intrusion of real time V-twins in more motorcycles, with more air intakes and exhaust, improved combustion, efficiency, power and performance. Its an interesting, restless and excited market for biking in India. Awaiting more hyperactive and brutally gorgeous rides into the country. Feels more in da house.

Cheers
